Engaging Science Project 2025.

Funded by the State of Queensland acting through Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

The project to enhance habitat and monitor the population of animal species in a specific riparian corridor in the Mulgrave River catchment has been developed following discussions between QIT Plus and Madjandji Aboriginal Corporation Registered Native Title Body Corporation (MAC). Madjandji rangers will liaise with QIT Plus and take the lead in the delivery of the project. The project outcomes will be achieved through the delivery of a series of structured activities that require scientific research, practical skills, community engagement, mastery of new technology, and public speaking.

A target bana site of cultural and environmental significance has been selected. Nesting box inspection cameras and field cameras will detect the presence of animals at the target locations. Monitoring data, site locations and descriptions will be recorded electronically on a software co-developed with QIT+. Visual media will also be co-produced by QIT+ and Madjandji rangers to capture the aims and outcomes of the project. Data results and visual media will be available for MAC to share with interested stakeholders.
