Traditional Owner Healthy Water 1:  2021-2023

“Looking After all of Madjandji Waters”

The Traditional Owner Healthy Water Project has allowed Madjandji Aboriginal Corporation play a significant role culturally informing and participating in local Great Barrier Reef Regional Program to ensure our waters will be healthy into the long-term future, and our cultural values and knowledge of Madjandji places are shared and respected for generations to come.

Madjandji Rangers and Elders worked with a specialist to map and promote the spiritual, traditional, ecological, cultural values and knowledge of our Traditional waters and places. Rangers have also carried out successful land restoration activities in partnership with Mulgrave Landcare & Catchment Group and Greening Australia.

Madjandji Traditional Owners have played a significant role in culturally informing and actively participating in the local Great Barrier Reef Regional Program. This collaboration ensures that our waters remain healthy for future generations.

Madjandji custodians have collaborated with a cultural landscape planning specialist to document and promote the spiritual, traditional, ecological, and cultural values of Madjandji waters and places.

Improvements to the health of water sources and on-ground restoration activities have been delivered.  This includes removing invasive Pond Apple trees from a degraded farm drain and revegetating the area with endemic native species, restoring ecological balance and reinforcing cultural custodianship.
