Marine Debris Clean Up and Prevention: 2024-2026.

Funded by State of Queensland acting through the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation.

Madjandji Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) have developed a program to look after Madjandji Lands & Waters.
Woolanmaroo, an area of cultural significance to Madjandji people, is polluted by man-made debris carried to the site by ocean currents, tidal inundation and floodwaters.

This project has also given us the opportunity to document Woolanmaroo’s outstanding cultural, scenic, scientific, and recreational values.

Madjandji Rangers collect, sort and record details of the litter. This data will be shared with stakeholders, including Great Barrier Reef Foundation, Tangaroa Blue, Marine Parks, Cairns Regional Council and Terrain NRM.
