The project restored and rehabilitated degraded farmland and wetland ecosystems within the lower Russell Catchment. The culturally significant site was identified through cultural mapping as an important area for sourcing materials used to make traditional hunting implements and was historically an abundant food source.
Agricultural clearing, livestock and changes in land use had degraded native vegetation, wetlands and creek systems, impacting ecological and cultural values.
Working with the landholder and project partners, the project reintroduced native and traditional plant species, rehabilitated wetlands and waterways, protected culturally significant areas, and improved habitat and water quality. The project supported ecological recovery while strengthening cultural connections and ongoing stewardship of Country.
